The construction of the Yokohama Bay Bridge started in 1980 and was completed in 1989. With the length of 860m, the Yokohama Bay Bridge is an imporatnt transport route to deal with traffic jams in the urban areas.

The Yokohama Bay Bridge has a pedestrian mall called "Yokohama Skywalk", which extends to the observation deck.

When the bridge was opened to traffic, parking a car on the side of the bridge was banned. However, too many people parked their cars there to see the nightview of Yokohama, which caused traffic problems.
